OPENLANDS ANNOUNCES DOUG FOGELSON AS ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
***Year-Long Partnership to Focus on Nature in the Region***
(Chicago – September 15, 2015) Openlands announces that Doug Fogelson is the regional conservation organization’s first Artist-In-Residence. The residency commences late summer 2015 and extends until summer 2016. Fogelson’s residency will focus on natural spaces around the Chicago region in which Openlands has worked in its 52-year history. These will include, but not be limited to, forest preserves, wildlife refuges, and the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve. The residency will culminate in an exhibition, as well as lectures and other events, following the year.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Doug Fogelson, a Chicago based photographic artist who has achieved national acclaim,” said Openlands President and CEO Jerry Adelmann. “Having started as a social justice organization, Openlands’ conservation mission is rooted in people and connecting them to nature where they live. Doug’s images challenge and invite the viewer to see our world in new and evocative ways. We look forward to his unique vision of some of our most beloved landscapes.”
“Working with Openlands is a unique opportunity to experience the rich landscape in our region and visually engage dialog about it,” Fogelson remarks. “I intend to personally learn and feel through a process of regular site visits and studio production over the next four seasons and synthesize a body of work that reflects issues surrounding non-human life to the people living amongst it.”
About Doug Fogelson
Doug Fogelson studied art and photography at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia College Chicago. His photographic manipulations are included in notable public and private collections such as The J. Paul Getty Center, The Museum of Contemporary Photography, The Cleveland Clinic and exhibited with esteemed galleries. He has been recognized by publications including Art News, Photo District News, Art Forum, and AfterImage. Doug Fogelson founded Front Forty Press, an award-winning independent fine art publishing company, and has taught in the Photography Department of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
